HOW TO FIND OUT IF YOUR BABY HAS SICKLE CELL?

Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS)

The doctor takes a small sample of the placenta for DNA testing from 11 weeks of
pregnancy.

Amniocentesis

A sample of the amniotic fluid surrounding your baby is tested, between weeks 16-20 of
pregnancy.

Fetal Blood Sampling

Later in pregnancy, the doctor can take some blood samples from the umbilical cord for
testing.
